Our Mission
Located in the heart of downtown Milwaukee, situated among city landmarks like the Fiserv Forum, UW-Milwaukee Panther Arena, and the Baird Center, Tenor Journal Square High School opened in 2021 as an expansion of the Tenor High School model, established in 2005. Tenor is a public, tuition-free charter school authorized through the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee and proudly part of the Seeds Schools network. Through Tenor’s first-of-its-kind 3+1 model, students receive one FREE year of college at MATC. They complete their high school requirements in three years, then spend their senior year of high school on campus at MATC, gaining a significant jumpstart on their future.
In addition to a comprehensive, rigorous high school curriculum in math, science, social studies, and English language arts, Tenor Cathedral Square also offers a wide-ranging selection of courses to meet diverse academic interests, including several Project Lead The Way classes, Psychology, Computer Science, and more! Full-time student support staff and counselors provide the one-on-one attention and guidance students need to succeed at Tenor while also planning for their bright futures.
Since Tenor Journal Square opened as the second Tenor High School campus in 2021, the facilities themselves continue to evolve to accommodate our growing student body. We’ve added a state-of-the-art Innovation Lab where students dive into the Project Lead The Way curriculum and practice the real-life applications of technologies like vacuum thermoformers, vinyl printers and cutters, laser engravers, and 3D printers. We also opened two additional floors of classrooms, a student-run coffee cafe for our business and entrepreneurship program, a state-of-the-art science suite, a senior seminar space for 12th graders returning to campus from MATC to meet and work together, and a new academic and life skills resource space.
Even as Tenor Journal Square High School grows, we remain committed to nurturing a relationship-based, supportive, nurturing small-school environment. Students have access to onsite mental health support through our agency’s partnership with Jewish Family Services and to social emotional learning opportunities through partnerships with several community organizations, including Big Brothers Big Sisters of Metro Milwaukee. WIAA sports and extracurricular activities round out a robust student experience.
At Tenor Journal Square, every student is known, and any future is possible! Students experience the advantages of a small-school environment while accessing a wide variety of opportunities that help them discover their passions and reach their potential.
