About Me

Derek Russell joined Seeds of Health as a social studies teacher at Tenor Journal Square High School in 2025. He has professional experience educating 6th-12th grade students in a variety of topics, from U.S. and world history to current events and government.

Derek holds a bachelor’s degree in Secondary Education with a Social Studies emphasis from the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire.

When not teaching, Derek loves playing cribbage and spending time on the water fishing or water skiing. Derek moved to Milwaukee in June 2025; since then, he has loved taking the time to learn the city’s history and explore its hidden gems. 

“I am looking forward to connecting with a variety of students and staff at Seeds of Health. There are ample opportunities to walk alongside students in major milestones of their life, and I am excited to watch them grow and thrive in a positive learning environment that sets them up for their future. I hope that I can learn from students, as I can also help them learn!”
